Some Thoughts: Preferred Reading Genres

Growing up I'm so into anime. Most on top of my life, my answer will be Digimon and CardCaptor Sakura.

At teenage, I think I started to like something fantasy yet beautiful in landscape and the visual. Like Japanese or Chinese garden. Or secret garden like, with cottage and wooden fence, with flowers around. Still remember I, I even bought many garden magazines, sharing this one with my ma. She loves gardening.

As I grew older, I found myself not many changes when come to my genre choices. Be it when come to movies or books.

Before books, I always prefer to go for movies. Meaning, if I know the movie is adapted from novels, or the novel already in motion picture - I just go for the movie. Such as the Divergent franchise, The Maze Runner franchise, Harry Potter franchise, and such. And true is, I started to notice my liking in genre when come to movies. My interest in movies back then and up until seems like never change. Movie Starship Troopers, RoboCop franchise, Terminator franchise, and Alien franchise, and Predator franchise is I keep back to it. Favourite. These too inspired me in my artwork as time passed.

With CGI and technology in film making grow, so do movies and genre. Yes, I watched any of genres. Superhero, horror, thriller, movie and series.

But my favourite becomes more in a same theme - Sci-Fi to futuristic, to dystopian in its subtheme, cyberpunk and steampunk. All that in the category. Movie that fit the theme will attract my attention to go for cinema like, Ghost In The Shell, Alita: Battle Angel, latest one this year The Creator, Blade Runner 2049, Total Recall where played by Colin Farrell, Lucy, Inception, Tenet, Underwater, Interstellar, Dune Part 1 and 2, Edge Of Tomorrow, Passengers played by J. Law and Chris Pratt, In Time, A Quiet Place franchise, Mad Max Fury Road, Waterworld, Ready Player One, and so on.

As for books, it all started after watching Mortal Engines. Adapted from the same title, by author Philip Reeve.

Before, I did bought few books and comics like. Harry Potter Deathly Hallows 1, and Kingdom Hearts, which I got 2 to 3..? Other such as guide genre for cats and kittens, and identify flowers and plants, information about places with sketchy illustrations. I bought for main reason just because I love the illustration I guess? This was teenage time... But from Mortal Engines that makes me want to read, it was 2018..? Still reading the fourth book, the thickest one. And another 4 still untouched.. it will when the time comes. I hope that I will reads no matter how long is going to be..

Else than that, I think I'm into thriller or horror. But I'll talking about it in part 2 on this.

Book: Overthinking Tapi Buat-buat OK By Aqila Masri

I finally finished reading "Overthinking Tapi Buat-buat OK" by Aqila Masri (Overthinking But Acted OK) , published by IMAN Publication, last October. And let's see what my thoughts on this one. First of all, my view is just as from an artist, crafter and blogger, and as a reader... When this book published, to be honest I got caught by the title. I didn't plan on to get it like seriously, because I have this feeling to put aside what I can relate to the title. The word - "overthinking"... But as time past, I started to have the image of this book in mind, and it's repeating. So I feel it and said, "I need to have it" with wondering what the topics will be within. It was more like a calling from the book I could say. And early last month - September - I got it. First of all, the cover illustration - pretty. I love how the choice of the style from the artist. The work is beautiful. And give the visual to what's the book about. At the same tim...

Book: Asrama By Muhammad Fatrim

On January this year, FIXI emailed me for a commission. It took me few minutes to accept the offer. As the result, almost a week later I received their books together with one I got commissioned for last year - my first one from other author. I got 4 books in total, 3 of them by another author. I know, I need to read them 3, started with the first one, best selling ASRAMA by Muhammad Fatrim. And here I'm going to put some of my thought about it. For first, I'm honoured to be part of the book, for the new cover I got commission for last January, and thank you so much for the opportunity FIXI.  This was my most challenging one when come to illustrate for a cover. And while in process, I got little bit pressure than before. Since it needs to be 'girls' vibe and feel but dark. I did my best although a bit I feel like if I can deliver it much better.. But, so far, most fans and FIXI's family like it, I'm ok with that. Alhamdulillah.. The new cover on the right in red...
